Welcome to Blue Dolphin Craft

Have you ever been so wrapped up in what you are doing, that time just fades away and the worries of the world are gone, just for a time? It can be a beautiful space to be in. This is what crafting does for many people, myself included. When you allow yourself to let creativity flow, there is amazing freedom and joy. Not only are there benefits while crafting, but there is also great benefit in seeing your finished work of art!

Hello Everyone, today I decided to share something very different from my normal paper-crafting. With the heightened call for the general population to wear facemasks, I decided to find a pattern and try my hand at making some. I made two so far and they fit really well. They have an adjustable nose piece so the mask seals properly around the face. They also cover below the chin. They are made out of finely woven cotton with non-woven interfacing.

They are also very comfortable. I have had to wear facemask at different times and every time I feel like I can’t breathe. With these masks, I feel like I have space and they are not hot to wear.

The pattern comes from a very clever person, Jesse Killion. Click here to download the pattern. There are 8 different sizes which makes it very easy to get a very good fit. All that is needed is the measurement from the bridge of your nose to your ear and the bridge of your nose to under your chin. From that, you just need to find the appropriate size pattern. I have adjusted the pattern by adding slight tucks just on the cheekbones. We also use elastic ear loops on these two masks instead of ties as that is what my daughter prefers. I will use ties on my husband’s mask as he prefers them. He is a nurse and will need to wear his mask for many hours.

This can be a scary time, but if we all do what we can to help the situation, we may just get out of it faster and with less damage than expected. Wearing a mask maybe that small something that can make a big difference. Also, these masks can add a bit of joy. By choosing fun, bright and cheerful material, we can create a positive atmosphere even if we can’t see each other’s smiles beneath the mask.

Here is another YouTube about mask creation that might be helpful. After these people make 167 000 masks, I think they have some wisdom to share.
